Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a process of assessment used to determine if there is a relationship between behavior and the environment - and if so, the extend of that relationship. FBA utilizes observations within the environment to determine what environmental conditions tend to occur predictably before the target behavior (antecedents) and what changes are apparent in the environment following the behavior (consequences). The goal of an FBA is to develop an effective intervention plan to change the behavior.
