Teaching Climate Change (and Sustainability) Book Study
Join us for a 5-session book study of "Teaching Climate Change" by Mark Windschitl, a great resource for K-12 educators seeking to address climate change and sustainability in the classroom. Over the course of this professional development experience, participants will engage in thoughtful discussions and activities centered around the book's practical strategies for teaching climate science, fostering critical thinking, and empowering students to understand the science, implications, and solutions to climate change. The study will emphasize fostering understanding, resilience, and a commitment to justice, ensuring that students not only grasp the scientific aspects of climate change but also recognize the social and ethical dimensions of the issue. Each session will feature guest presentations from climate scientists, mental health experts, and the author, offering valuable insights on both the environmental and emotional aspects of climate change. Participants will also have opportunities to share ideas and collaborate with fellow educators to develop actionable plans for integrating climate change education into existing curricula. As a bonus, participants will receive a complementary copy of Teaching Climate Change. This book study will equip teachers with the tools and confidence to effectively teach climate change, support students’ mental well-being, and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
