Classroom Library Enhancement

ISD Superintendents across the state have committed to reaching a level 3 on the MAISA K-3 Essentials Implementation Continuum. AND - it is something we should all be striving to do as educators, as stated in the Core Commitments within the Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy - “We are committed to working against all forms of bias that cause harm and lead to inequitable education, in literacy and across all subjects and domains.” Creating classroom libraries that provide windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors for our students is absolutely critical to their success and overall wellbeing

Objectives of this course include: I can rethink my current understanding of leveled text in creating classroom libraries. I can organize my classroom library to be engaging for students. I can consider student interest, reader identity, class time, student stamina, and choice as instructional moves to build classroom libraries. I can utilize an online coaching platform to submit my work and collaborate with peers from a distance.

To reach these objectives, teachers will: Complete a self-paced book study during the summer. Attend monthly professional development sessions at Marquette-Alger RESA from 4:30-7:30 with dinner provided. Participate in a coaching cycle with a RESA literacy coach. Collaborate with peers around best practices. Engage in coaching conversations throughout the process. Meet all CLE project assurances.
