CSIU Guest Teacher & Education Majors Substitute Teacher Training

The CSIU Guest Teacher, Education Majors, and Classroom Monitors Program, facilitated by CSIU, is tailored for individuals interested in substitute teaching, including those with a bachelor's degree seeking substitute teacher roles (Guest Teacher) and college students majoring in education (Education Majors). This comprehensive training session covers effective instruction and classroom management strategies for traditional, non-traditional, and special education settings, along with an overview of local policies and procedures applicable to the school setting. Participants gain valuable insights and skills necessary for successful substitute teaching experiences.

Target Audience

Education Majors – must have completed 60 credits in a PA approved education program. If you are unsure if your education program is approved, please visit PDE PA Approved Educator Certificate Programs to make sure your university is on the list. You will be required to submit official transcripts at a later date.

Guest Teachersmust possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in any subject. If you are unsure if your university is accredited, please visit Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs to make sure your university is on the list. You will be required to submit official transcripts at a later date.

Classroom Monitors-Individuals seeking a classroom monitor permit must meet specific criteria to be eligible. They should have either completed at least 60 semester hours or equivalent courses at a regionally accredited college or university in Pennsylvania, or possess a minimum of three years' experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and currently work in the same capacity. Additionally, candidates must fulfill pre-employment requirements regarding background clearances, citizenship, and moral character under the School Code and Child Protective Services Law. Moreover, they must be at least 25 years old and have successfully completed a PDE-approved classroom management training at an intermediate unit. Upon completion of the training, candidates will be provided with a certificate to provide as documentation that they have completed a qualifying training program. It's important to note that Type 09 Classroom Monitor Permits are valid until June 30, 2026, ensuring compliance with all criteria is essential for obtaining and maintaining the permit for the specified period.
