Introduction to Modeling Instruction for STEELS - Focus on Energy
|
Introduction to Modeling Instruction for STEELS: Focus on Energy is a two-day professional development workshop designed for secondary science teachers, led by the American Modeling Teachers Association (AMTA). This customized training introduces educators to a coherent, research-based approach to teaching energy through Modeling Instruction, a pedagogy that actively engages students in constructing and applying scientific models. Participants will explore strategies to foster a classroom environment that prioritizes Science and Engineering Practices, as outlined in the STEELS standards, while deepening their understanding of energy concepts. Additionally, all participants will receive a one-year subscription to AMTA, granting access to a comprehensive library of curriculum resources and ongoing professional support.
Modeling Instruction provides a framework that digs deeper into traditional content areas such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, offering educators an alternative to other types of integrated curriculums. This approach emphasizes conceptual understanding and real-world application, equipping students with the tools to think critically and solve complex problems. By focusing on the coherence of science disciplines, Modeling Instruction ensures that students not only meet but exceed standards, while fostering transferable skills that prepare them for future STEM endeavors.
