PREPaRE Workshop 1: Comprehensive School Safety Planning: Prevention Through Recovery~ April 2025

Location: Careerline Tech Center, The Commons

Cost: Free, lunch is included

  

PREPaRE Workshop 1 and Workshop 2 are stand alone trainings. Participants are not required to attend PREPaRE Workshops in any sequential order. Participants are not required to attend both workshops.

There is a small amount of pre-work required to attend this event. You will receive an email one week prior to the training with more details. Some handouts will either need to be printed ahead of time or accessed electronically during the workshop. Please plan accordingly. If you need to borrow a Chromebook, please email Mandy Laninga (mlaninga@oaisd.org).

Registration will close on April 15. If you need cancel your registration, please do so through your Wisdomwhere account prior to this date. SCECHs and social work CEUs have been approved for this training.

Target Audience

PREPaRE Workshop 1 is appropriate for all school personnel who need to understand how the comprehensive school crisis team is organized and functions. May include: crisis team members, administrators, mental health professionals, other pupil services personnel, security officers, front office staff, transportation directors, etc.

 

Learner Outcomes

This workshop will help: 

  1. Reduce anxiety and fear associated with school safety planning. 

  2. Increase knowledge and confidence associated with emergency operations planning and multi-tiered crisis response. 

  3. Identify the importance of a balanced, comprehensive approach to crisis preparedness to include the five mission areas of prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery. 

  4. Include mental health approach as part of expanded, comprehensive Incident Command System. 

  5. Understand how the Incident Command System is utilized to respond to multiple emergencies. 

  6. Identify the key components of effective school emergency operations plans (EOPs). 

  7. Discuss guidelines for exercising and evaluating EOPs.
