HIV/AIDS Teacher Certification Training K-12 (Mandated) - February 6, 2025

4:00 - 6:00 p.m. ~ Virtual

Audience: All K-12 teachers and staff who teach HIV/AIDS education

Instructor: Stacey Sills, Regional School Health and Equity Consultant

State law mandates that every public school district provides HIV Prevention education at every building level (elementary, middle and high school). This hybrid training provides participants with the following:

  • Legal obligations on HIV and sex education in Michigan schools
  • Overview of HIV/STI prevention, transmission, testing and treatment
  • Required content including emphasis on abstinence
  • Effective curriculum for HIV and reproductive health education
  • The role of the Sex Education Advisory Board Guidance with answering students’ sensitive questions

To gain maximum benefit from this course, participants should know what curricula their local school board has approved. You MUST complete the asynchronous virtual portion before attending the synchronous virtual session. The asynchronous content and pre-work assessments will be sent to you after registering for this course. You will have access to a Google slide deck with two videos for your viewing and two accompanying assessments to test understanding. MDE "strongly recommends" attending this training every five years.

*This training does not include curriculum.

No cost

SCECHs will be available pending State approval
