This workshop for 4th-6th grade teachers facilitates best practices in instruction for HIV prevention education. Topics covered include curriculum selection, laws around reproductive health education and HIV prevention education in Michigan, data on HIV and other STIs, and answering challenging questions. At this workshop, 4th & 5th grade Michigan Model for Health HIV lessons are disseminated. Per Michigan law, any teacher teaching HIV must go through this training prior to instruction. It is also strongly suggested that anyone teaching Sex Ed or HIV attend this training once every 5 years. This training is applicable for HIV prevention educators, puberty, or sex-educators teaching grades 4-6.
This workshop is a one day training offered twice with different in-person locations:
- October 9, 2024: Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (sub reimbursement + participant travel stipend).
- February 25, 2025: Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Education Service District (sub reimbursement + participant travel stipend).
Lunch will be provided to those who register 24 hours prior.
Five (5) SCECHs will be available for those who complete the entire session.
