This presentation explores the realities of sex and labor
trafficking, with a specific focus on the Midwest, including Ohio and Michigan.
Attendees will gain insight into how youth and adults are recruited,
manipulated, and trauma-bonded, as well as the lived experiences of victims.
The session will highlight current intervention efforts and provide practical
tools for recognizing the signs of trafficking, taking appropriate action,
including who to contact.
Participants will also learn about the legal framework
surrounding human trafficking and how to identify potential cases in both
professional settings and everyday life. Beyond understanding trauma and its
impacts, the presentation will emphasize actionable steps to move beyond
trauma-informed care to help create meaningful change. Various resources will
be provided including a screening tool for identifying at risk and trafficked
youth will be shared to equip attendees with the skills needed to identify those
at risk and those potentially being trafficked. A valid adult tool is in
process and can be shared with the group when it is ready.
