Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Training 24.25

YMHFA is designed to teach parents, caregivers, school professionals, mentors, and other caring community members how to help a youth who is experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. YMHFA is primarily designed for adult learners 18 years of age and older who regularly interact with youth in a variety of settings. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-Step Action Plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered included anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders, suicide ideation and eating disorders.

Please bring your laptops to take the final test and survey which will be done on-line at the end the coursework.

This course is valued at $175 but due to this being hosted by the Clare-Gladwin RESD and YMHFA Instructors the cost will be $55 which includes the Mental Health First Aid Manual, and the Youth Mental Health First Aid Participants Guide, SCECHs and YMHFA Certificate.

**All registration and payments must be received no later than two weeks prior to the training. This will allow participants time to complete the required pre-test online at MHFA and to guarantee the YMHFA Manual and Guide are available for this training session**

After registration participants will need to sign into MHFA to begin the process for this training and answer a few additional questions prior to class. An email will be sent on how to do this. Note: this must be done before the training course begins in order to participate in the in-person training portion of this course. There will be a 6.5-hour training in person which includes a final test & survey on-line. A 30-minute lunch will be served in between sessions. In order to receive your certification and SCECHs all areas must be completed.

If you choose the blended course, you will successfully complete a self-paced, 2-hour online course before participating in the 4.5 hour in-person training.
